Former Poland coach Sousa sacked by Brazilian Flamengo
SAO PAULO
Brazilian football club Flamengo announced on Thursday that they have fired Portuguese coach Paulo Sousa, who only took over in December.
Sousa, who was previously in charge of Poland, had a two-year contract with the Rio de Janeiro giants.
Flamengo said on their social media that their staff also left the club. Brazilian media report that Ceará’s Dorival Junior will be the new coach.
Flamengo, who are 14th in the Brazilian league with 12 points from 10 games, decided to fire Sousa after a 1-0 loss at Red Bull Bragantino on Wednesday.
Sousa, 51, left Poland last year when his contract was terminated by the national football federation.
Sousa’s career also includes spells at Leicester and Queens Park Rangers in England, Bordeaux in France and Fiorentina in Italy.
