Thompson Island named Delaware Brewery of the Year, again

REHOBOTH BEACH – Thompson Island Brewery is Delaware’s Brewery of the Year, according to the judges of the 11th Annual New York International Beer Competition for the second consecutive year.

Located in the resort area of the state, the brewery was owned by SoDel Concepts in 2019.

“It’s a testament to our brewers that we’ve won so many awards so quickly,” said Scott Kammerer, president of SoDel Concepts. “Also, our beers are well received in all of our restaurants, not just on Thompson Island. Considering we have so many craft breweries on the beach, that says a lot.

In addition to earning top brew honors, Thompson Island received a silver medal for Ticket to Rye, an IPA created by head brewer Justin Leahy after he joined the team.

The Thompson Island IPA, the brewery’s flagship beer, won a bronze medal in the American IPA category. This is not the first time that beer has been featured. It won a gold medal for an American IPA in the 2020 US Open beer competition, and it was included in Beer Travel Guide’s Best IPAs of 2020 list.

The experimental beer Yes, Chef! also won a bronze medal. The recipe includes Phantasm, an extraction made from Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc grapes.
