The model deposits $110,000 on a digital island in the metaverse

Portuguese model Sara Sampaio is the latest in a growing list of celebrities buying into the confusing but undeniably lucrative world of digital property in the metaverse.

The former Sports Illustrated and Victoria’s Secret model dropped a veritable fortune on a digital island at The Sandbox Metaverse.

Sampaio paid 25 Ethereum (ETH) for the non-physical asset, which equates to almost $110,000.

Sold on site Exclusivewhich describes itself as a “premium and curated NFT marketplace”, Sampaio’s digital property was one of 25 unique islands on offer in Exclusible’s exclusive archipelago.

Other notable non-fungible token (NFT) buyers would include professional tennis players Stanislas ‘Stan’ Wawrinka and Ana Ivanovic, as well as Paris Saint-Germain FC soccer player Marco Verratti.

A small number of digital islands have also been offered to social media influencers with at least one million followers, giving you a good indication of who is buying these dodgy assets.

The private island mob is said to be located near Snoop Dogg’s digital digs, which are also found in the metaverse version of The Sandbox.

Although 25 ETH is a relatively small sum for millionaires like Sampaio, the model hopes that this investment will return a little better than her last real-world real estate transaction.

The 30-year-old just lost more money than she spent on her crypto island, selling her lavish three-bedroom apartment in Manhattan’s trendy East Village neighborhood for $3.65 million and losing $150,000 in the process.
