Staten Island Pediatric Dentist Puts Kids At Home With Colorful Murals, Games and More
STATEN ISLAND, NY – Pediatric dentist Dr. Lisa Lazzara says a visit to her new Annadale office for many children feels like “a trip to Disney World.”
Using bright and colorful murals and accessories, Lazzara has created themed rooms in her office that are particularly appealing to young people. Themes include: a colorful jungle filled with smiling furry friends; an underwater world with colorful fish and other aquatic life; a winter wonderland for penguins and polar bears; aboard a ship navigating the seas; a sunny day at the beach.
And it’s not just visual. There’s a “fun and games” aspect to it, as each treatment room has a hidden tooth-shaped image in its mural so kids can have a “Where’s Waldo” type experience.
There’s even a swing in the waiting room so youngsters can pose for a photo before being seen by the dentist. And at the exit, there’s a large “No Cavity Club” sign and dental mural, which have proven to be a favorite backdrop for parents whose children are coming off a clean bill of health.
“We want kids to be excited, as well as their parents to post and share their wonderful experiences on social media so others can see how much fun a visit to the dentist can be,” Lazarra said.
And she said she made sure the children – many of whom dread going to the dentist – feel comfortable.
“I know I had a positive impact on the children that will last a lifetime – they will always be a ‘good’ dental patient, instead of being afraid of the dentist,” she said. “We create a relaxing environment that allows children and parents to be at ease.”
And Lazarra’s new office isn’t his first. Kids Dental was formerly located in Tottenville, but has recently expanded into a larger space.
“I decided to move my office location to a larger space to meet the growing needs of patients and parents in our community,” she said.
Additionally, she has hired other board-certified pediatric dentists to join her team.
“This allows for additional office hours to provide flexibility in scheduling our families’ busy work and school schedules. This new location also has more treatment rooms, allowing siblings to be seen at the same time, reducing wait times and eliminating anxiety-provoking delays,” Lazarra said.
PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY
She opened her dental practice – which treats children of all ages, including infants, toddlers and those with special needs – to provide “individualized and specialist” pediatric care.
“The most rewarding part of my job is being able to take an initially nervous and worried kid and have them leave the office laughing and enjoying the visit, excited for their next appointment,” Lazarra said.
“Similar to children seeing a pediatrician, children need to see a pediatric dentist, as we have two years of additional training after dental school solely focused on the growth and development of children and their teeth. unique approaches to dealing with various behavioral aspects of children, how to make them feel comfortable and the experience enjoyable,” she added.
And Lazarra said his biggest inspiration for working specifically with children came from his father.
“He taught me to work hard and study harder to achieve the goals you desire. He always said, ‘Do what you love and you’ll love what you do,'” she recalls. love my job and I love taking care of children. It is my personal mission to treat your child as I would expect someone to treat my own children.
OFFERED SERVICES
Lazarra said she keeps up to date with the most innovative dental technologies.
“We have the latest laser technology, which allows us to treat conditions such as lip and tongue ties in infants and children,” she said. “Alleviating these restrictions helps with breast and bottle feeding, speech difficulties, breathing/respiratory issues, snoring, difficulty transitioning to solid foods and much more. Laser techniques can also offer relief from canker sores, excision of gum overgrowth, and removal of soft tissue lesions.
Kids Dental offers various dental procedures including exams; cleanings; sealants; fluoride treatments; frenectomy procedures; growth and developmental screenings for orthodontics; extracts; tooth-colored crowns; root canals; space maintainers; teeth whitening; nitrous oxide; and IV sedation with an anesthetist in the office.
