Fire Island’s ‘pyramid house’ is up for sale for $6.5 million

One of Fire Island’s most prized possessions has just hit the market. After last changing hands in 2018, the iconic “Pyramid House” is once again up for sale.

If you’ve been to Fire Island Pines, you may have spotted this unique home. It is the one that looks a lot like the Louvre Museum in Paris, but in more wood. Located on the easternmost point of the Fire Island Pines section of the island and adjoining a national park, the home is approximately 2,100 square feet of pure, secluded relaxation away from busy streets and noisy places. With stunning views of the beach, the home features three bedrooms and three bathrooms.

The price for this level of comfort? A whopping $6.5 million, with some designer furniture included. Estate agent and current owner Glenn Rice, who last bought the dream hotspot in 2018, leaves the next lucky owner two late 1950s teak sofas designed by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen, as well than a 1960s rosewood bedroom set from Norway, among other valuable furnishings.

Facing the undeveloped dunes and the Atlantic Ocean, the Pyramid House displays a very generous outdoor space, and its massive glass wall (to which it owes its nickname inspired by the Louvre) is located on the ocean side. The sprawling master bedroom occupies the bottom of the two floors, while the top one is dedicated to an organized, open-plan living space, including a living room and a dining room under the tip of the pyramid.

Guests are also assured of maximum privacy. Two additional bedrooms and an additional bathroom are located outside the main house, and each of them is built in the shape of a pyramid. They surround the outdoor swimming pool and there is even a hot tub to ensure a warm and comfortable bath during the cooler days.

If the prospect of buying the house is a little steep, you can always rent it out, at least before it sells. Currently, the Pyramid House is listed on Airbnb for $1,500 per night.
