A virtual conference on climate change and health in small island developing states (SIDS) will be held next week from October 5-8, CARICOM TODAY said.

The CARICOM Digital Bulletin says the conference will examine the science of climate change and health in the Caribbean, with the aim of identifying knowledge gaps, proposing solutions and promoting resource sharing, implementation networking and empowerment.

CARICOM TODAY said CARICOM Secretary General Dr. Carla Barnett will be among representatives of regional and international organizations speaking at the event.

The virtual conference on climate change and health will be held within the framework of the European Union (EU)/Caribbean Forum (CARIFORUM) “Strengthening Climate Change Resilient Health Systems in the Caribbean Project”.

The project is coordinated by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), in line with the “One Health” approach and the framework of Phase IV of the Caribbean Cooperation in Health (CCH IV).

In addition to activities implemented by PAHO, the project also includes activities of other CARICOM institutions that are implementing partners.
These institutions are: Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), Caribbean Community Center on Climate Change (CCCCC), Caribbean Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH), University of the West Indies (UWI) and the CARICOM Secretariat.
